Exit signs

Interesting article in an ongoing series by Slate on signage: this focuses on the prevalence of the red Exit signs in the US compared to the rest of the world, where the green "running man" signs are more common. But the most interesting part of the story is the extreme similarity when comparing the officially adopted exit sign (pictured left), developed by Yukio Ota in the 1970s, and a very similar design created by Russian designers independently during the same time period.
